Located in the heart of la Côte Vaudoise, La cave des Ruaz is a family vineyard. Ernest Dupraz, chief winegrower of Château de Vinzel, bought in the 40’s, few wine parcels and a barn, down the village of Vinzel. He transformed the barn into a house for living, with a cellar.
In 1979, Jean-Daniel took over is grandfather domain.
Driven by a passion for viticulture and innovative ideas, he gradually planted new grape varieties such as Pinot noir and Pinot Gris, then Garanoir and Gamaret in the late 90’s.
More recently Viognier and Merlot have been added to the production range.
With the product diversification and the development of barrel ageing, the cellar became quickly too small. Jean-Daniel initiate the extension of the cellar in 1982, and then again in 1998.
In 2018, I took over the family estate. After studying oenology, I worked alongside my father for a few years, during which time he was able to pass on to me his vast knowledge and experience, key elements of our profession. It is a great honor for me to be the third generation of winemakers at the Cave des Ruaz and I am looking forward to continuing this beautiful family history.
Today the domain represents 3,4 hectares. From the route d’Etraz to the forest border, the vineyards benefit from an ideal exposure and a great diversity of terroirs. This allows us to have the best situation for each of the grape varieties we cultivate. The wines result are of great finesse, elegant and authentic, they reflect the passion that drives our family.
